Children’s Play Dates in a Covid-Secure Way

Published August 3, 2020 by editor in Uncategorized

During these challenging times, SRS has come up with a bright idea to help our refugee and asylum seeking children enjoy the summer school holidays.  We are blessed with a safe and secure garden and our Family Support Worker, Keriann, was keen to help the children benefit from the sunny weather and have somewhere to run around and play.

So, every week during August, Keriann will run a “one family at a time play date”.  She will  sanitise all outdoor play equipment before and after each session and kind supporters have donated fresh play sand and a bubble machine. She is giving priority to families who live in apartments and don’t have access to gardens.

So far, the sun has shone and the play dates have been deemed a great success.  One mum said, “Stuck at home, the children constantly squabble, but here in the garden, they play happily together.  And I get a break as Keriann is there to play with them.  I enjoy a sit down in the garden with Keriann to keep me company.”  Social distancing is, of course, adhered to and the children happily sanitise their hands.  They are learning quickly.
